Events through October

Welcome back Autumn 2022

I would like to firstly welcome our new Military families that have children joining our Foundation year

.

I hope you all enjoyed a lovely summer, the weather certainly was nice for a change.

This term I will be running the MKC on Tuesday lunchtime for Phase one and two.

MKC Hooe.

Our Military Kids club is run by Mrs Kirkland, who is our Military Lead for Hooe Academy.

It takes place once a fortnight for Phase one and Phase two children.

We regularly bake lovely chocolate buns and enjoy eating what we have made yum! We have lots of Lego and enjoy building amazing creations, enjoy crafts, and games as well as lots of other activities.

The children are able to chat, share concerns or just simply talk to others who are in similar situations, in a safe place where they know they are supported and listened to.

Events

Friday 14th October, we were lucky enough to welcome Johnny Mercer to the school.

The MKC had lots of questions for him regarding his time in the forces, He discussed his role within the armed forces, tours he has completed and spoke about impact being away from family has. The children also asked about favourite vehicles and what made him want to become an MP.

We will also have Andy coming in with his Military trucks the children will have fun climbing on, looking at the stretchers on the field ambulance, trying on uniforms and seeing military rations that they will also be able to taste should they wish. Date TBC.

During the summer myself and Bertie the MKC mascot came into school to do some digging and planting for our sensory and poppy remembrance garden, although now looking a bit weather warn, during the summer months hopefully the plants will have established and be in full bloom again, the children then can sit and relax with the scent of the lavender, honeysuckle and the many other plants. We will be able to watch the poppies grow and are looking forward to designing a display for Remembrance day.

Events

Our MKC have attended some exciting events lately, they attended The raising of the flag ceremony to celebrate the start of Armed Forces week.

Flag raising ceremony

A few lucky families were able to attend the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

We had a tour of Plymouth Argyle Stadium, sitting in the dugout, finding out upcoming events at the ground and had a photo opportunity with some of the players, all the children who attended received a medal and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Argyle tour

As part of our MKC some of the children joined other schools from around Devon for a Little Troopers wellbeing workshop.

The children were able to complete activities that highlighted some of the situations Military families face, such as parents being deployed, moving house and schools. Giving help on identifying feelings when these situation arise and strategies to help cope.

All the children involved enjoyed the morning and went home with their packs to read through in their own time and a certificate of their participation.

Plymouth`s Lord Mayor will be visiting the MKC children on 14th July, the children are very excited, especially to see the heavy gold chain.

14th July 2022

The Lord Mayor, her Deputy and the Lord Mayor`s consort visited us today, they met with MKC and also the school counsellors.

The questions all involved had for our visitors were outstanding and as they walked around the school popping into each class they commented on how calm the environment was and the lovely behaviour of all the children at Hooe.

MKC enjoyed explaining the different activities we do in the club, events we have attended and hope to attend in the future, and enjoyed seeing the Lord mayor and Deputy dress up in their robes, the names of the hats and also the reason they wear different coloured chains.

We all had a lovely time.
