'Happy, Passionate about learning and Ambitious'
Welcome to Early Years Foundation Stage!
This term we will have the luxury of getting to know your children and completing baseline assessments. We will be exploring our new classroom environments and making lots of new friends. We will also be exploring some traditional tales such as The Three Little Pigs and The Enormous Turnip where we will begin to story map. We will also be talking about our feelings and emotions which are vital to understanding who we are as people as well as the people around us.
In Foundation we have worked very hard to create an exciting and engaging learning environment which thrives on children's interests, conversations they have with each other and the adults and lots of laughter!
We love visits from our families especially as we learn about about people around us. If you want to come in and visit us and share your job - please come and see us!

Information about Early Years Foundation Stage
Phonics: Here at Salisbury Road, we teach phonics from the start. We will begin by listening to sounds and playing phonological awareness games. These early activities support the children to 'clue their ears' into sounds all around them and establish key skills which will ensure they become super readers! We will then begin working through the Read Write Inc scheme to learn all the individual letter sounds and begin to read simple CVC words. The children will be grouped according to their knowledge so the learning can be tailored to their needs. As the year progresses, the children will read words, have books sent home to read and videos will be posted onto our school platforms to share at home.
Maths: We provide the children with a secure foundation of numbers 1-10. We learn about the composition of each number and talk about 'what we see' and 'how we see it'. We will look at patterns in objects, colours and numbers and explore making our own patterns too. Oracy is at the heart of our maths sessions to enrich the children's vocabulary and make sure they are using full sentences with the support of the stem sentences found on our maths scheme White Rose Maths. We follow the units timetabled on the Reception terms for Autumn, Spring and Summer.
Topic: We base our topics on the children's interests underpinned the United Learning curriculum.
Reading: Reading is a priority at our school. In Foundation, we pride ourselves on promoting a life-long love of reading. Reading is at the heart of everything we do in Foundation so we encourage you to read with your child everyday. We love visiting the library once a week and sharing books at home with our families. We have books all around our environment for the children access linked to our seven areas of learning. We always read stories throughout the day and can often be found snuggled up with an adult in the reading corner listening to an afternoon story!
Learning at Home
We are very proud of our online platform Class Dojo which is a closed group for our EYFS families to enjoy seeing their children's learning during the school day. We post photos and videos of the children playing in provision or videos of us singing together during circle time sessions. It allows our families to connect with us in school and send messages to the team where we can offer support or information. We encourage photos of the children outside of school too at clubs, on holiday or on their weekends. These offer wonderful chances to encourage the children to speak about their wider-world outside of school.
